“Gender stereotypes are bad for men too.”

January 21, 2014

I’m loving this interview with Gloria Steinem, particularly this gem:

But I believe that men are also beginning to tire of forever playing masculine roles of being aggressors and protectors. They realize that gender stereotypes are bad for them too.

I’ve been meaning to share this article for a while, “What Really Makes Katniss stand out? Peeta, her movie girlfriend.” This article brings up an interesting point because in the series it is difficult to tell who is protecting who. Peeta is trying to protect Katniss while she spends most of the time saving him. The Hunger Games offers a strong, complicated female lead in Katniss. I admire the fact that the love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale is not as much a part of the first two books. I think in the third book it takes over and I wonder what the series would have been like if Katniss didn’t end up with either man at the end?!
