About

Hi and welcome to my blog! I just graduated from college in Ohio and am starting new adventures in the Pacific Northwest. I love blogging, teaching, spending hours dissecting my favorite films (Inception‘s one of my favorites!), the thrill of a great bargain buy, farmer’s markets and most importantly, talking about feminism and inspiring young people to approach the world with constant curiosity (refer to the poem on my homepage by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist).

Purpose: After spending time volunteering and taking education, psychology, and women’s studies courses in college, I became hyper-aware of my surroundings and frustrated about a lot of things. So, I created The Way I Am, a blog to discuss my anxieties about the lessons children learn in schools as well as the many obstacles such as media images, television programs, etc. that young women and men navigate each day. Click to enjoy some of my previous posts. My goals are always to present material in a clear, engaging and sometimes humorous manner. My current blog, Educating Elena, is an extension of my previous one as I begin my “adult” life (Quotations are necessary because I’m still figuring out what that means). Enjoy!

An Education in Copenhagen

In the words of Tina Fey in her book Bossypants, “You have to let people see what you wrote. It will never be perfect, but perfect is overrated. Perfect is BORING.”
